While Microsoft provides its
users with more than expected, it also takes the same care of Mac users; MS
Outlook for Mac 2011 proves it. The application is specifically designed to
work with Mac system and uses .olm files to store its data, including email
messages, contacts, attachments, notes, journals, etc. The .olm format is an
archive or backup file that is especially useful in case of problems with the
application. If you face any issues, such as corruption in Outlook database,
and fail to access the Outlook data, you can easily extract all the information
from .olm file.
However, it worsens the situation
when you encounter problems with the archive file itself, as you now do not
have any source from where the data can be extracted. The major causes of .olm
file corruption are listed below:
- Complete formatting of Hard Disk Drive
- Virus and infections in the local system or over the
network
- MS Exchange Server crash
- Hardware error
- Corruption in hard disk or external media that has
Outlook 2011 installed
- Interruption or error during Outlook installation
There may be many other causes of
.olm file corruption besides the listed ones. Because of corruption, you may
encounter various error messages, such as:
- "This application failed to start because OLM.DLL was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
- "An unknown error has occurred in Outlook. Error code –
17199"
- "Cannot find [PATH]\OLM.DLL"
Well, your next step has to be aimed
at repairing the corrupt file and extracting data from it. Unable to believe
that there is something to repair a corrupt .olm file! Yes, that is true! You
are just not provided with any native repair utility, rather you need to get an
efficient external software, such as Stellar
Phoenix OLM Repair, which is a dedicated application to repair corrupt
OLM file and recover all the data, including email messages, address book,
tasks, attachments, and notes.
Once you are done with the repair
process, the repaired .olm file has to be imported into Outlook 2011. You can
carry out the import process as follows:
Step 1: Go to 'Applications' on
your Mac system and open Microsoft Office 2011.
Step 2: Open MS Outlook.
Step 3: Click 'File'
Step 4: Click 'Import'
Step 5: From the displayed 'Begin
Import' window, select the radio button associated with 'Outlook Data File
(.pst or .olm).
Step 6: Click on the right arrow
located at the bottom-right corner.
Step 7: Next, select the type of
the file that has to be imported (.olm in this case), and again click the right
arrow.
Step 8: Choose the file that you
want to import and click 'Import'.
Step 9: The next window will
appear with the message 'Outlook has finished importing your data'.
Step 10: Just click 'Done'.
This is how you can successfully
import the repaired .olm file into Outlook for Mac 2011.
